You. Yeah, you. Go vote.
There was this PSA released in September 2018 which was directed to the American youth. Their message came in the form of older people mocking the younger generation. Despite saying the opposite, it is clear to see that the message is to get the youth to vote. The reverse psychology is effective as the elderly seen in the video really provoked me, which I assume is common among the other people that watched the video.
Knock the Vote PSA
The line about how the older people belong in a generation of doers as opposed to the youth belonging to a generation of whiners really did it for me. I'm not even their intended audience, yet I feel the urge to prove the elderly in the video wrong.
The ad implies that American voters are mostly comprised of older people and that younger people rarely vote. Even if the elections are smaller in terms of impact, the older people are always there. The representation of the community is inaccurate when the younger people aren't exercising their right to vote. I feel that there is no point in democracy if they neglect voting.
That won't be a problem though, because I think that the ad is effective and will persuade the American youth to go vote. Like I said, the reverse psychology works very well here and will surely work on most, if not, all of the American youth.
The creators of the ad carefully thought it out, and were able to carry across such a strong message. I think that it is an important issue, and they emphasized it very well. I like the idea of utilizing reverse psychology and it was executed perfectly.
Do I think that it's going to make real change? Not really. Though, I think that many of the eligible voters will be conflicted over the message and make them think twice over the message in "Knock the Vote".
